And yet we rarely appreciate ourselves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-justify has-normal-font-size\">We don`<code>t normally take the time to celebrate small victories and achievements, or to encourage ourselves when we practice caring. Be honest: how often have you told yourself, \"Well done! This was worth the time and effort. That self of mine did a good job - let<\/code>s rejoice!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of us never hear these words from ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet this self-encouragement and self-support lend us the strength to accomplish much, to improve.  As we improve, we gain self-respect; in time, self self-respect becomes self-confidence. We can feel an honest self-appreciation that lets us recognize our own virtues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, you noticed the need, you offered kindness and care. Your discipline, sincerity, and kindness brought some good into the world. That goodness is eminently worthy of notice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Does it seems selfish to say so? We might think so at first, for as a rule we are little used to the idea that deep appreciation, even for ourselves, is an essential part of caring. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can see very clearly the benefits of caring; we can see just as clearly the consequences when care is lacking. We can take a little time to examine our own lives, and see the same patterns play out in human history: at every scale, in every situation, we can see the difference caring makes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Caring brings out the best in us. It supports big, ambitious projects, and gives depth and meaning to our knowlegde. But caring doesn<code>t only manifest in big gestures: it<\/code>`s also there in the tiny details. Even just paying attention, staying calm, and weighing  what we say before we speak can contribute to an atmosphere of real caring. En toch waarderen we onszelf zelden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normaal gesproken nemen we niet de tijd om kleine overwinningen en\nprestaties te vieren, of om onszelf aan te moedigen wanneer we zorgen uitoefenen.\nWees eerlijk: hoe vaak heb je tegen jezelf gezegd: &#8220;Goed gedaan! Dit was\nde tijd en moeite waard. Dat zelf van mij heeft goed werk geleverd &#8211; laten we\nons verheugen!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sommigen van ons horen deze woorden nooit van onszelf.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maar deze zelfaanmoediging en zelfondersteuning geven ons de kracht om veel\nte bereiken, te verbeteren. Naarmate we verbeteren, krijgen we zelfrespect; na\nverloop van tijd wordt zelfrespect zelfvertrouwen. We kunnen een eerlijke\nzelfwaardering voelen waarmee we onze eigen deugden kunnen herkennen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Je hebt tenslotte de behoefte opgemerkt, je hebt vriendelijkheid en zorg\ngeboden. Je discipline, oprechtheid en vriendelijkheid brachten iets goeds in\nde wereld. Die goedheid is bij uitstek het vermelden waard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lijkt het ego\u00efstisch om dat te zeggen? In eerste instantie denken we dat\nmisschien, want in de regel zijn we weinig gewend aan het idee dat diepe\nwaardering, zelfs voor onszelf, een essentieel onderdeel van zorg is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We zien heel duidelijk de voordelen van zorg; we kunnen net zo duidelijk de\nconsequenties zien wanneer zorg ontbreekt. We kunnen even de tijd nemen om ons\neigen leven te onderzoeken en dezelfde patronen zien spelen in de menselijke\ngeschiedenis: op elke schaal, in elke situatie, kunnen we het verschil zien dat\nzorgzaam is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zorg brengt het beste in ons naar boven. Het ondersteunt grote, ambitieuze\nprojecten en geeft diepte en betekenis aan onze kennis. Maar zorg manifesteert\nzich niet alleen in grote gebaren: het zit er ook in de kleine details. Zelfs\nalleen maar opletten, kalm blijven en afwegen wat we zeggen voordat we spreken,\nkan bijdragen aan een sfeer van echte zorgzaamheid.
